How ToC Works handles your information.

Free generation in your project

When you expressly choose free generation, bounded excerpts of your outline, continuity and voice instructions, relevant earlier sections, and the ending of the selected section are sent to the free provider you select. Available choices may include Cloudflare Workers AI, Groq, or OpenRouter’s free-model router. OpenRouter may pass the request to the provider operating the selected free model. This does not use the paid OpenAI production path. We save your private project, provider consent and time, section text, earlier revision snapshots, progress, and per-account attempt counts. Manual edits do not call a model, but saved edits may become context when you later generate another passage. Nothing is published automatically.

Do not submit sensitive personal information or material you lack permission to use. Read, manually edit, and export your work even when a free allowance is exhausted. Account-data deletion includes these projects and their revision history. Earlier free samples remain as backups when you explicitly import them into Creator Studio. Free generation pauses at personal or shared limits; it does not automatically switch providers, upgrade an account, or charge you.

Optional traffic analytics

With your permission, we use a first-party 30-minute visit cookie to measure page categories, starting a work, saving a project, seeing a quote, opening checkout, and completing a purchase. We remember your analytics choice for 180 days. Analytics are optional and separate from email consent; declining does not affect the service.

We retain a broad referral category or a short campaign-source label, not the full referring URL or search terms. We do not store IP addresses, browser fingerprints, names, email addresses, manuscript text, or chat content in these analytics tables. If you sign in, the visit can be linked to your existing account ID and project IDs to attribute purchases and separate operator, testing, and pilot activity. There are no advertising pixels or third-party analytics scripts.

Visit-level records are retained for up to 90 days and removed during the next collection or report cleanup. Use “Analytics choices” in the footer to withdraw permission and clear the current visit’s analytics. Account deletion also removes analytics linked to that account. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track signals prevent optional collection. Operational project and payment records remain necessary to provide the service regardless of your analytics choice.

Information we collect

• Basic account identity supplied through sign-in, such as name and email address.
• Questions and AI-generated answers submitted through Ask ToC, the page where a question was asked, a random conversation identifier, model-usage records, and privacy-preserving abuse-prevention identifiers. Do not submit manuscripts, medical records, financial information, or other sensitive private material to Ask ToC.
• Name, email address, organization, area of interest, and message only when a visitor separately chooses the Ask ToC email form and consents to automated follow-up and relevant product updates.
• Tables of contents, submitted manuscripts, preserved original manuscript snapshots, editorial scopes and goals, source materials, instructions, generated or edited editions, manual drafts, anchored editorial notes, comments, and support correspondence.
• Uploaded and generated artwork, illustration placement notes, generation prompts, captions, alt text, attribution, rights-holder information, source URLs, and license declarations.
• Audio preferences and stored AI-generated narration files when recorded narration is approved for a work.
• Operational records such as quotes, generation or editorial status, model usage, publication versions, legal acceptance, and publication activity.
• Payment status and transaction references from Stripe. ToC Works does not receive or store full payment-card numbers.

How information is used

We use this information to answer Ask ToC questions from approved ToC Works information, understand common questions, send automated email follow-up only when a visitor expressly opts in, secure accounts, preserve submitted manuscripts, calculate quotes, generate or edit and host works, process support and feedback, prevent abuse, maintain records, improve the service, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell personal information.

Service providers

ToC Works uses OpenAI to generate Ask ToC answers and other service providers for identity, hosting, generative computing, research, email or support, and payment processing. Ask ToC questions and limited recent conversation context are sent to OpenAI to produce an answer. Information is shared only as needed for those functions or when required by law. Stripe processes payment information under its own privacy terms.

Access, portability, and deletion

Ask ToC can be used without providing contact information. Closing Ask ToC does not submit the optional follow-up form. Visitors may request deletion of an Ask ToC conversation or inquiry using the privacy contact below and should include the email address submitted or the approximate date of the conversation. Creator works are private unless the creator chooses another visibility. Creators can export their current work, change its visibility, disable reader downloads, or delete all their works and associated ToC Works account data from Creator Studio. Account deletion removes every work from the active service; it is not a single-work deletion. Limited security backups, payment records, abuse-prevention records, and information another provider must retain may remain for operational or legal reasons before being deleted under their normal schedules.
