Section 23.5

Presence without a Biological Body

Creator: Jason Paul · Developed with AI by ToC Works.

How a spiritual creature acts in bodily history remains a difficult question. Catholic teaching gives an account of its nature: personal, intelligent, created, and spiritual. It does not give a complete physical model for every appearance described in an ancient narrative.

Location also requires care. A figure's association with a place or nation does not mean its nature can be understood as a body occupying that territory. Descriptions of presence and action should not be turned into anatomy without support.

The same problem returns to the reported unions in Genesis. Acknowledging agency does not explain generation. A theory that fills the gap must be assessed as a theory, rather than as a detail already supplied by doctrine.

For now, the questions of presence, bodily action, and causation remain open within the account of spiritual nature. Their difficulty is part of the inquiry, and no field analogy or symbolic description should conceal it.
