Section 19.1

Before the Flood

Creator: Jason Paul · Developed with AI by ToC Works.

In Genesis, the unions appear before the account of the Flood. The story moves from the sons of God and the women to human wickedness, violence, and judgment. Enoch develops the connection into a fuller causal history.

That gives the biblical and Enochic traditions a broad sequence: heavenly transgression, extraordinary offspring, a corrupted world, and catastrophe. Enoch adds detail to the role of the rebels and giants, including their judgment and confinement.

The sequence matters even while questions of parentage and mechanism remain. A proposed comparison must respect where the tradition places its crisis. Moving it across the Flood would change the account we are trying to explain.

Genesis and Enoch are also related witnesses. Enoch's expansion cannot be counted as though it were a wholly independent report confirming every feature of Genesis. It shows how an ancient interpretation develops the sequence, and thereby makes the chronological question more explicit.
