After Deucalion

Creator: Jason Paul · Developed with AI by ToC Works.

Greek heroic genealogy commonly begins its larger unfolding after Deucalion and Pyrrha. Their descendants belong near the start of a network that extends toward later heroic houses and the wars at Thebes and Troy.

Many famous divine-human unions therefore belong after the Greek flood figure. If Noah and Deucalion preserve one catastrophe, the order of events does not match the simplest identification of Greek heroes with the offspring of the pre-Flood unions in Genesis.

This is a substantial difficulty. It arises from allowing the Greek genealogies to keep their own order. Similar characters and motifs cannot remove it.

The traditions may still be related in some way. Their chronology might have changed in transmission, or the supernatural claims might concern different episodes or kinds of agency. Those are additional explanations to investigate. The surviving order blocks the easy equation before it establishes any alternative.
